“The Archaeology of the Ute Indians and Their Final Years in Western Colorado”

Local archaeologist, Curtis Martin, Principal Investigator for the Colorado Wickiup Project - Dominquez Archaeological Research Group (DARG), will present his talk on the indigenous Ute Indians of Colorado. The presentation will include an overview of the earliest occupants of the state, going back over 13,000 years, with emphasis on the Ute Indians and their final years as sovereign residents. Field methods for analyzing and dating these rapidly disappearing cultural resources will be discussed and a call-to-action will be made for statewide support of what is perceived as a crucial need for documenting these ephemeral, and threatened wooden features.

John Fielder's Multimedia Wilderness Photography Presentation

Conservation Colorado is proud to announce that John Fielder and his statewide photography tour entitled, A Celebration of 50 Years of Wilderness, are coming to Colorado Mesa University on Wednesday, November 19th for a public presentation at 7:30pm. The presentation is not to be missed as it spans decades of his work, includes over 300 of his stunning wilderness photographs and is accompanied by music and stories to guide the audience through the show.

Tickets are $5 and available at the door starting at 7:00 pm or online.

The event compliments John Fielder’s corresponding photography exhibit on display at the Mesa County Central Library in downtown Grand Junction beginning November 10th.

Challenger Learning Center will be here from 11:00am-4:00pm…All scouts and their leaders in uniform admitted free. “Living in Space” program offers hands-on activities that help you to understand what it is like to prepare for and live in space. Participants will learn about the components of a space suit and even try on several parts of the space suit. You will also examine the food astronauts eat, and try a sample of space ice cream. There will be experiments which allow you to learn what it is like to be an astronaut. This will be a very interactive, continuous program where you can ask questions, have fun and learn a lot.

The inflatable, portable planetarium enables participants to experience the night sky no matter what the weather or the time of day. Constellations, moon phases, planets, seasons, and deep sky objects can be observed in the StellarPortal. Sit back, relax, and enjoy your solar system, as a trained astronomer blasts you off into an adventure that is out of this world!
