John Bayley in concert

Date(s): 9/5/2015

7:00 pm

St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, 3888 27 1/2 Rd., Grand Junction
Share in this unique mind-expanding and spirit-lifting musical journey with John Bayley. The roots of his music go deep into West Indian culture. Born in Georgetown, Guyana--a tropical domain on the sun-splashed north coast of South America--John brings from there a fresh and exciting sound, a uniquely powerful musical force. The word Reggae means "song of praise" and originated in Ethiopia. The reggae music we know today was originally the folk gospel music of black slaves brought to the West Indies. Mr. Bayley, an ordained minister of the African Methodist Episcopal Church, brings a pastoral heart as he sings songs of love for God and God's people in a manner that bridges the gap between his heart and the heart of the listener.

Agatha Christie is spoofed hilariously as a murder mystery turns into a game of illusion and reality. Colonel Winthrop Wiggins and his wife Beatrice live in their typically English country home. During a blizzard, they receive a visit from Detective Sergeant Gallagher. He informs them that a notorious “Peanut Murderer” is on the loose. Laughs abound as Gallagher, the Wigginses and the butler Miles engage in a zany intrigue of murders, accusations and arrests.

Claire has a case of traumatically induced amnesia that erases her memory whenever she goes to sleep. Each day she wakes up a blank slate and her husband tells her who she is. Today she will meet an alarmingly bizarre cast of characters who will help her decipher her fractured life: a limping, half-blind man in a ski mask claiming to be her brother, a foul mouthed hand puppet, a claustrophobic lady-cop, and her perpetually stoned son, among others. Each of them help to shape a funhouse plot that brings Claire closer to learning about her past life and everything she thought she’d forgotten. It’s one hilarious turn after another in this award-winning comedy.

Open Mic Night (First Friday Event)

Date(s): 8/7/2015

5 p.m. - 9 p.m.

Downtown Grand Junction, Colorado
Triple Play will host an Open Mic Night on the Art Center first Friday Tour of Art Galleries open to musicians, bands, poets, and comedians. Contact Matthew Cesario at 970 243 3974 or matt@tripleplayrecords.com for more information.
A favorite among local artists and art-lovers, First Fridays in Grand Junction are a great way to experience the wide variety of artistic talent in town. Numerous art venues and galleries throughout Grand Junction are open late on the first Friday of each month. First Fridays typically begin around 6 p.m. and go until around 9.

What makes this event so much fun (besides the wonderful, eclectic art shows) are the people. Everyone is in a great mood. There’s always lots of food, drink and laughter, and it almost becomes a game as you see people again at the next art venue.

The Art Center in Grand Junction hosts First Friday receptions and often features local celebrity artists like Terry Shepherd. Probably the best-known ceramics artist in Grand Junction, Shepherd’s work runs the gamut from huge vessels to smaller vases, platters and more, all very reasonably priced. Another talented local artist group, The Outsiders, have also displayed their diverse works at The Art Center.

Numerous other galleries and shops downtown join in to host. First Friday. At Frame Works & Gallery, you’ll see master works by Rob Kurtzman, photographer extraordinaire and oil painter Dan Loge.

Hangups downtown offers lots of smaller art wonders at very reasonable prices — great for unique holiday gifts.

To participate in First Fridays, just show up at The Art Center (corner of Seventh Street and Orchard Avenue) in Grand Junction and the staff will be happy to guide you to the other locations. It’s a wonderful way to experience the Grand Valley art scene while “playing” with many fun locals and artists.

An Enchanted Evening

Date(s): 1/10/2015 Date(s): 1/10/2015

2pm and 7pm

Whiteman Educational Center, Grand Junction, CO
Adagio Dance Academy is excited to announce that it will be performing a brand new and all original ballet on January 10, 2015. Titled, An Enchanted Evening, the ballet will retell common fairytales but with a unique twist. “Enchanted Evening is something truly magical and exciting,” says Adagio director and owner and the show’s creator Jessica Miracle. “We all grew up hearing the stories of Red Riding Hood, Goldilocks, and Snow White. This was a chance for us to show that even old stories can have a new outcome when looked at from a different angel. It has been a very rewarding experience to write a new perspective to tie these tales together and to choreograph the dances that will tell the story.”
Two performances will take place on January 10 staring at 2:00pm and 7:00pm. Both shows will be held at the Museum of Western Colorado’s Whitman Educational Center at 4th and Ute in downtown Grand Junction. Tickets are $13 for adults and $7 for children.

Western Colorado Writers’ Forum Presents Food for Thought

Date(s): 11/19/2014

5:30 to 7:15 P.M.

Mt. Garfield Middle School
The Western Colorado Writers’ Forum has teamed up with Mt. Garfield Middle School and their Food for Thought program to bring several well-known poets together for an evening of learning and entertainment. We’re planning this event for Wednesday, November 19, from 5:30 to 7:15 at the middle school. The public is also invited.

MGMS will be using monies from their 21st Century Grant to help fund the program and the WCWF is matching the amount of the honorarium to be given to each poet. The grant has been awarded to the school and the Forum is participating because both organizations are especially interested in offering students out-of-the-ordinary learning experiences.

The evening will begin as all Food for Thought activities do with a gathering in the multipurpose room. Pizza will be served. Toward the end of the first half hour, the poets who will be teaching that evening will be introduced: Nathan Carson (poet/graphic artist/GJ); Rosemerry Wahtola Trommer (performer/poet/Telluride); Art Goodtimes (poet/wild and crazy guy/drummer/Telluride); David Rothman (professor/poet/Crested Butte); Wendy Videlock (artist/poet/GJ). Each poet will offer something unique: art and poetry; drums and poetry; rhythm, movement and poetry; a focus on rhyme. Those attending will go with the poet they have chosen to an individual classroom for the next hour and a half to have fun and learn.

We are thrilled to have found a date at the last minute where so many artistic types could be brought together under one roof. The title of the event is: “Hark, hark! The dogs do bark1” It is taken from a 14th century nursery rhyme and “the beggars are coming to town,” refers to the bards and minstrels who used to roam from village to village. In the mid 1300’s, townspeople were esp. leery of strangers who they feared may be carrying the plague, hence, hark, hark.
