Blessing of the Animals
2:00 pm - 2:30 pm
St, Matthew's Episcopal Church, 3888 27 1/2 Rd., Grand Junction
Blessing animals?! Sure! Our pets are important parts of our lives. Some folks would even say their pet is a family member. Our cats, dogs, horses, chickens, and guinea pigs bring us joy and add richness to our lives. Why not have a blessing for them (and for their people)? This is an annual event held near the Feast Day of St. Francis of Assisi, known for his love of all God's creatures whom he regarded to be his brothers and sisters. So bring your animals (leashed and kenneled), yourselves, and be blessed!

Benefit concert presents singing group Il Divo Colorado
Il Divo Colorado, the latest, hottest young male singing group, will be featured in a concert at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 536 Ouray, on Saturday, August 9, at 7:30 pm. The concert is a benefit for domestic violence programs in Grand Junction. Admission to the concert is free, with a suggested donation of $10. All donations are fully tax-deductible. Il Divo will be supported by rising star singer Belle Weathers, virtuoso El Salvadorian violinist Sandra Rivera, and eclectic percussionist Joe Moher. Pianist Kathryn Mientka will accompany the ensemble.
Inspired by the internationally touring group Il Divo and vocal superstar Josh Groban, the program will contain popular songs such as Unchained Melody, My Heart will go on, You Raise me up, Time to say Goodbye, and The Prayer, as well as Gershwin’s beautiful “Summertime” and some hot Celtic fiddling tunes on violin. Beautiful songs and fiery violin playing make this a program everyone will enjoy!
Tenors Mat Coronado and David Siemens and baritone Kyle Thompson of “Il Divo Colorado” have performed extensively in Grand Junction, taking leading roles in operas and musicals at Colorado Mesa University and the High Desert Opera. Soprano Belle Weathers has enjoyed leading roles in opera as well as indulging passionately in jazz singing. Amazing violinist Sandra Rivera switches seamlessly from virtuoso classical violin concertos to jazz, folk, and sizzling, toe-tapping fiddling. Drummer Joe Moher fascinates with his ability to move from orchestral percussion to exotic African and Arabian drums to full-out trap set. Kathryn Mientka, well-known pianist in the area, has toured internationally both as a classical pianist and as keyboard player in the cross-over Celtic band sensation FEAST.
Don’t miss this wonderful concert! Doors open at 7:00, and seating is limited! Call 970-241-4579 for more information.
