Western Colorado Writers’ Forum Presents Food for Thought

Event Dates and Times

11/19/2014 - Starts: 5:30 PM - Ends: 7:15 PM
Mt. Garfield Middle School
The Western Colorado Writers’ Forum has teamed up with Mt. Garfield Middle School and their Food for Thought program to bring several well-known poets together for an evening of learning and entertainment. We’re planning this event for Wednesday, November 19, from 5:30 to 7:15 at the middle school. The public is also invited.

MGMS will be using monies from their 21st Century Grant to help fund the program and the WCWF is matching the amount of the honorarium to be given to each poet. The grant has been awarded to the school and the Forum is participating because both organizations are especially interested in offering students out-of-the-ordinary learning experiences.

The evening will begin as all Food for Thought activities do with a gathering in the multipurpose room. Pizza will be served. Toward the end of the first half hour, the poets who will be teaching that evening will be introduced: Nathan Carson (poet/graphic artist/GJ); Rosemerry Wahtola Trommer (performer/poet/Telluride); Art Goodtimes (poet/wild and crazy guy/drummer/Telluride); David Rothman (professor/poet/Crested Butte); Wendy Videlock (artist/poet/GJ). Each poet will offer something unique: art and poetry; drums and poetry; rhythm, movement and poetry; a focus on rhyme. Those attending will go with the poet they have chosen to an individual classroom for the next hour and a half to have fun and learn.

We are thrilled to have found a date at the last minute where so many artistic types could be brought together under one roof. The title of the event is: “Hark, hark! The dogs do bark1” It is taken from a 14th century nursery rhyme and “the beggars are coming to town,” refers to the bards and minstrels who used to roam from village to village. In the mid 1300’s, townspeople were esp. leery of strangers who they feared may be carrying the plague, hence, hark, hark.
