Death With Dignity - Speaker Roland Halpern

Garden Room at The Commons of Hilltop
There are currently five states where a competent, terminally ill adult can request a prescription for a life-ending medication to be self-administered when, and if, the person’s suffering becomes unbearable. "Death with Dignity" laws as they are often called, incorporate comprehensive safeguards to prevent abuse and misuse. A bill that was before the legislature failed to pass this year, but its sponsors have already announced plans to re-introduce it in 2016. So what is “death with dignity,” how has it worked in other states, how would the law work here, and what were the objections to passing it this year.

Speaker Roland Halpern of Compassion and Choices will be traveling to Grand Junction on June 25th to offer two separate presentations on Death With Dignity and efforts in Colorado to pass new legislation. The first presentation will take place at 1:00 pm in the sanctuary of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of the Grand Valley located at 536 Ouray Avenue, Grand Junction. The evening presentation will take place at 6:00 pm in the Garden Room of The Commons of Hilltop located at 625 27 ½ Road, Grand Junction and is sponsored by Humanists Doing Good. Please park in the rear parking lot for the Garden Room and enter through the Garden Room entrance. Both presentations are free and open to the public.

Free Dental Day

1190 Bookcliff Ave. Grand Junction Colorado 81501
Shelly Stewart

Group of local dentists will offer their services free of charge for the 5th year running on November 8, 2014.

GRAND JUNCTION, COLO (Sept. 18, 2014)— The time has come once again for a group of local dentists to host their annual Free Dental Day in Grand Junction. The dental offices of Dr. Julie Gillis, Dr. Kenneth Perino/Dr. Joe Funderburk, and Dr. Duane Weenig will offer basic dental treatment to persons who are unable to otherwise afford dental care for the 5th year. Services will include oral cancer screenings, x-rays, cleanings, fillings and extractions.

In order to be seen for treatment, potential patients need to be screened the day before. Potential patients will be screened starting at 8 a.m., Friday, November 7, 2014, at the office of Dr. Gillis. Dr. Gillis’s office is located at 1190 Bookcliff Ave. Unit 201.

This event is first come, first served, and we hope to limit treatment to people who are unable to otherwise afford dental care. Each patient will be offered one to two procedures and will be given specific appointment times and locations for their treatment. Treatment will be completed on Saturday, November 8, 2014 at the offices of Dr. Gillis, Dr. Perino/Dr. Funderburk and Dr. Weenig.

Dr. Gillis thought of the idea for a Free Dental Day some years back. “I wanted a way to give back to this community which has given me so much. The decision has been unanimous that we should repeat this service annually. Dr. Gillis said.

For additional information, contact Shelly at Dr. Gillis’s office 970-242-3635 or; Sarah at Dr. Perino’s office 970-241-2820 or; Monica at Dr. Weenig’s office 970-243-9640 or Search “Grand Junction Free Dental Day” on YouTube to see previous year’s events.

Detox JumpStart week 4 - Mary Rogers, RN & Shaman

2817 North Ave, Grand Junction
Presented by Healers of the Valley & Spinning Tree Healing. The fourth in a series of four seminars geared toward giving you a jumpstart on detoxifying your system.

Spiritual Detox – An experiential discussion about the importance of keeping our energy fields clean, clear, and healthy, and some techniques on how to do it!

Mary Rogers, RN and Shaman will guide us through an experiential discussion about our energy fields. We will explore the concept of the energy field – what it is, how it works, and how and why it is important to our health and well-being. Mary will introduce techniques that will help you become familiar with your own energy field, teach some simple ways to check in with your field, to clear unwanted/unnecessary energies, and to repair and fortify your boundaries.

We will then explore how you can actively work with your field to bring in and hold on to new positive energy, plant seeds for future potentials, and learn how to fertilize and maintain the energy and momentum through simple lifestyle changes and exercises that will help nurture your seeds to fruition. Come ready to play!

Detox JumpStart week 3 - Debra Cahill, DOM, LAc

2817 North Ave, Grand Junction
Presented by Healers of the Valley & Spinning Tree Healing. The third in a series of four seminars geared toward giving you a jumpstart on detoxifying your system. Jump into Summer from Spring with dietary and detoxification suggestions from an Oriental medical perspective.

Debra Cahill is a Doctor of Oriental Medicine and Licensed Acupuncturist who treats patients in Grand Junction, CO. She will present dietary and detoxification ideas from this perspective to help you make a smooth, healthy transition from Spring to Summer.

The change of seasons is an ideal time to boost the body's health by assisting it with proper nutrition. Attention to diet at this time will revitalize and energize your core, using the energy of the incoming season to facilitate improved health. We look at "detox" from a very different perspective, in that not everyone has the same nutritional or detoxification needs. Food is considered to be medicinal.

More emphasis is placed on what one is to eat for the greatest health benefit, rather than what you do not eat. Many useful resources will also be provided so that you can take your own health back into your own hands.
Cost per seminar is $25, or $75 for all the seminars combined. Tickets available at City Market, by phone at 1-866-464-2626, or online at
