And it's not just the in the desert where police are also laying down the law when it comes to house parties with underage drinking.

It's called Party Patrol.

Using grant money, officers with the Grand Junction Police Department cruise neighborhoods, act on tips and bust up parties.

Police say so far the operations have been successful.

“We want to get there before they go out and do something dangerous,” says GJPD Spokeswoman Kate Porras. “We are targeting them before they get behind the wheel of a car, before they kill themselves or someone else. Our goal is to stop them before something bad happens.”

Since February the police department has done more than seven Party Patrol operations, busting more than three dozen people.

The department's grant runs through March of next year.
