STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) - Forecasters predict calmer winds this week after gusts up to 70 mph temporarily closed lifts at Steamboat ski area lifts this weekend.

Heavy winds Sunday closed the mountain until about 11:45 a.m., when crews opened two lower-mountain lifts. Others opened later in the day.

Steamboat Ski and Resort Corp. kept lifts and a gondola running about an extra hour to compensate for the closures earlier in the day.

Further south in Aspen, gusts up to 40 mph kept a gondola at Aspen Mountain closed Sunday.

The National Weather Service is forecasting mostly sunny, mostly clear weather for Steamboat Springs for the next few days.
