WADENA, Minn. (AP) - Crews are clearing debris in a number of communities across Minnesota after a series of tornadoes struck across the state yesterday.

The National Weather Services is checking out three dozen reported tornado sightings. If they are confirmed, it would exceed the state record of 27 in one day.

Authorities are blaming at least three deaths on the storms.

The town of Wadena, about 70 miles southeast of Fargo, appears to have suffered the most extensive property damage.

Police and National Guard soldiers blocked off neighborhoods as city officials organized the cleanup. Dozens of homes and other buildings were destroyed or damaged, while the storm also tore up trees through much of the town and downed power lines.

Officials says 34 people were treated at Wadena's hospital for storm-related injuries, but only one remained hospitalized as of this morning.
