GRAND MESA, Colo. (KKCO) - According to David Boyd of the Bureau of Reclamation, more than 100 firefighters are headed to a heavily-wooded area of the Grand Mesa Monday morning in order to fight a wildfire 40 miles southeast of Grand Junction, and 15 miles east of Whitewater
About 30 acres are burning on a slope of the Grand Mesa. Firefighters are battling a section of the Kannah Creek Fire on the west side of the fire that's burning on city-owned land. They are allowing the remainder of the fire to burn it's natural course. That section is located on BLM land.
The BLM says they think it is a lighting-sparked fire. Boyd wants residents in the region to be aware that smoke will be visible from the fire Monday, especially from Highway 50.
