GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - The Grand Junction Police Department is investigating a late-night shooting that occurred in the 900 block of White Avenue on September 17.

Police received a call at 10:36 p.m. from someone saying they heard gunshots within their apartment complex and saw two people drive away in an unknown vehicle.

Shortly after, police arrived at the apartment and set up a perimeter around the complex and began to clear the building. Police located three individuals inside of the complex, however, they did not find any gunshot victims or suspects.

Then, at 10:46 p.m., a reporting party at St. Mary’s Hospital called dispatch and alerted them that a male who had gunshot wounds had been dropped off. A few minutes later, another victim with gunshot wounds was dropped off at the hospital, which prompted the hospital to be put on lockdown.

One of the victims was later pronounced dead at the hospital. On Wednesday, the Mesa County Coroner identified the deceased as 57-year-old Albert Mersman, a resident of Denver. The official cause of death is a gunshot wound to the chest.

Police are working the investigation and are interviewing witnesses and are pursuing any leads. If you have any information on this incident, please call 970-242-6707.

Police say they believe this is an isolated incident.
