Fatal accident kills one in Colorado National Monument

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - A spokesperson for the Colorado National Monument has confirmed that a 58-year-old female was killed Tuesday morning in an accident near the west hill in the monument.

Arlene Jackson with the Colorado National Monument says it appears that the woman hit small rocks that were in the road and lost control of her bicycle while going down the west hill around 6:45 a.m.

Responding agencies included National Park Service, the Fruita Police Department, and Colorado State Patrol.

Rim Rock Drive was closed until 10:15 a.m.

The Mesa County Coroner will be responsible for releasing the identity of the woman.
