Arrest made in connection to assault at Grand Junction nightclub
The incident occurred in the early morning hours of May 16
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - After an extensive investigation, police have identified and charged Dominic Trujillo, 27, for reckless manslaughter in connection to an incident that occurred on May 16 outside of Fantasy Nightclub.
According to the Grand Junction Police Department, officers were dispatched to a report of an assault that took place at a business in the 2200 block of Colex Drive just after 2 a.m. on May 16. When officers arrived, they found an adult male lying on the ground outside of the club, who was unconscious and not breathing.
The victim was later identified as 56-year-old Gary Hiner of Crawford, Colorado.
Officers performed CPR on Hiner until medical personnel arrived, who then transported him to the hospital. Hiner was ultimately declared deceased at the hospital.
The Mesa County Coroner released that the Hiner’s cause of death was blunt force head injuries.
After the incident, police plead with anyone with information on the event to come forward. After a lengthy investigation, police identified Trujillo as a suspect in the case, and a warrant was obtained earlier this month. Police say that Trujillo ultimately turned himself into the Mesa County Detention Facility when he was then charged with reckless manslaughter, a class 4 felony.
