GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - Scenic Elementary School was put under a shelter in place by law enforcement around 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 3, due to a mountain lion sighting in the area.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife was called in to take care of the animal. When asked about the mountain lion, Colorado Parks and Wildlife Assistant Wildlife Manager Ivan Archer said, “There was an unconfirmed mountain lion sighting about half a mile west of Scenic Elementary School. So I’ve been out in the area talking to people in the neighborhood looking for evidence, looking for signs of a mountain lion, and I have not been able to confirm that there was a mountain lion in the area, but it is possible.”

The shelter in place was lifted at 2 p.m. and students were released.
