Escaped inmate caught by Rifle Police
RIFLE, Colo. (KKCO) - Law enforcement caught up to an inmate who escaped from the Rifle Correctional Center earlier this week after being loose for about a day and a half.
Jewel Gist, a 54-year-old man, was caught around 9:45 p.m. Tuesday, April 11, after sightings were reported to Garfield County Dispatch. Rifle Police say that Gist was caught in the 1300 block of Railroad Avenue in Rifle. With assistance from the Garfield County Sheriff’s Deputies, the escaped inmate was taken back into custody without incident.
Gist was returned to the custody of the Department of Corrections.

RIFLE, Colo. (KKCO) - Authorities are looking for an inmate who escaped from the Rifle Correctional Center Monday morning.
54-year-old Jewel W Gist was last seen around 9 a.m. Monday, April 10 at his inmate work assignment on the grounds of the correctional center. He was wearing a prison-issued green shirt and pants. He’s described as a white 5-foot-5 man, weighing about 170 pounds with hazel eyes.

Gist is considered dangerous. Do not approach him if you see him and call 9-1-1.
Gist has been in jail since 2016 for aggravated robbery.
