UPDATE: Woman killed in Palisade car fire identified

PALISADE, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- UPDATE: The Mesa County Coroner has identified a woman from Draper, Utah, as the person who died in a car crash and fire in Palisade.

Jodie Maughan, 43, was the driver of a car that crashed into a building on North River Road and Troyer Road on Sunday. Her cause of death is thermal burns and smoke inhalation, and manner of death is accident, the coroner said Monday.

According to the coroner, it’s unclear if she was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, and toxicology information is not yet available.

Original story: One person is dead after a car crashed into a building and caught fire in Palisade.

This happened in near North River Road and Troyer Road just after noon on Sunday. Our crew on scene says the vehicle crashed into a building where antique replicas of train cars and locomotives are built.

The car was completely destroyed. River Road is shut down in both directions at this time.

Palisade police are investigating with help from Colorado State Patrol.
