MESA COUNTY, Colo. (KKCO) -- One person was killed and three others were injured in a crash on Highway 50 near Whitewater Monday afternoon.

Colorado State Patrol said a car driven by Rachael White, 21, a Colorado Mesa University student, spun sideways before slamming into another car that had pulled over during a heavy rain storm around 1:30 p.m. near Highway 141.

White was transported to St. Mary's Hospital by CareFlight but died at the hospital from her injuries, according to authorities.

CSP said the driver and two passengers in the car that was hit were treated at the hospital for minor injuries.

Troopers said hazardous road conditions and a lack of visibility played a role in the crash.

Highway 50 was closed for nearly an hour as crews responded to the emergency.

A GoFundMe site has been set up to help the family of Rachel White cover funeral costs. You can donate by clicking on the link on the right side of this page.
