GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- Community Hospital opened a new physical activity circuit outside the hospital with a $35,000 price tag.
It’s called the ‘lunch hour workout’, and it incorporates physical activity with a healthy meal, to get you up, away from the desk and moving.
“It’s important to us to keep people healthy,” said Tawny Espinoza with Community Hospital.
The circuit allows anyone to take a break, and get some steps in.
“It's a 1K loop but if they add it into the entire perimeter of the hospital, it's a one-mile loop,” she said.
The circuit track is located just south of the hospital building. The hospital said it will help with employee health.
“For those of us, who sit at a desk or stand in one place all day long, is really important to get up and take those breaks,” Espinoza said.
CEO Chris Thomas said he hopes it will allow staff to relieve some stress, and come back to work as better employees.
Families of patients can also use it, as it provides a place to relax and decompress.
“If family members are waiting for their loved one to have surgery, they can come out here and enjoy this,” Thomas said.
People can walk the track, or receive a full body workout. There are several stations along the track, featuring different workout equipment.
You can work out any muscle, from your abdominals to your triceps.
The activity circuit came with a price tag of $35,000. The Grand Junction Lion’s Club helped out, giving the hospital a nearly $9,000 donation.
“Getting people out and exercising is extremely important,” said Scott Fedderson with the GJ Lion’s Club. “We hope this is an endeavor that people will use for a long time.”
