New scam targets GVP customers

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- Crooks are going after Grand Valley Power customers.

The 'past due' scam is going around. People get a call from an 800 or blocked number with someone threatening to cut off power if they don't pay within the hour using a prepaid debit card.

They may even quote an amount that sounds like your typical bill, but it's a scam.

Grand Valley Power officials said they'll never call and require you to make a payment with a prepaid debit card. They said the first step in cutting off a customer's power is a written notice.
