GJPD: 20-year-old arrested in teen's shooting death

ORCHARD MESA, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- The Grand Junction Police Department has identified the suspect arrested in connection with the shooting death of a local teen.

A sergeant-on-duty on Sunday confirmed 20-year-old Israel Massingill, of Grand Junction, is facing charges in the death of Kiera Quintana. According to a booking report from the Mesa County Jail, he faces first- and second-degree murder charges.

The shooting happened early Saturday morning in the parking lot of the Orchard Mesa City Market on Hwy. 50.

The Mesa County Coroner said Quintana, 17, of Whitewater, died from a gunshot wound to the head and ruled the death a homicide.

Massingill was arrested shortly after the shooting. There were no other suspects.

Police said Quintana was pronounced dead at the scene.

Another woman at the scene was shot and taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

It's still unclear as to what led up to the shooting.
