GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- In wake of the shooting that killed 17 students in Florida on Wednesday afternoon, leaders with School District 51 said it's so important for people in the community to stay vigilant when it comes to reporting possible threats.

Officials said if someone sees or hears something that's not quite right, they can report it using the Safe2Tell app.

The service is available 24/7.

People can call 1-877-542-7233, download the Safe2Tell app or use www.safe2tell.org.

"Those go directly to the building administrator, to the security team, and to law enforcement and we are able to jump on those immediately," said Tim Leon, the director of safety and security for District 51. "So that's a tool that we really want students to use, as well as parents."

The district's security director will be talking to police and deputies about the shooting in Florida. Resource officers will be extra vigilant in the coming days, watching for signs of potential copycats.
