GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- The Grand Junction Fire Department felt the heat of open burn and wildfire season over the weekend.
On Saturday alone, the department responded to a vehicle fire, four brush fires and a structural fire before 4 p.m.
Even though wildfire season just started and the last day for open burning isn't until May 31, the department says they're prepared.
“Our firefighters keep in peak physical condition that allows them to do their job. Come ask us in August if conditions have changed, it could be. Right now we are feeling strong, we have our equipment we know what we are doing and we are focused on providing that for our public," said Dirk Clingman a spokesperson for the fire department.
Even though the season has started a bit early, the department says they are not facing any staffing issues.
