GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- After taking home the Colorado 5A State Knowledge Bowl trophy, the Grand Junction High School Academic Team is headed to Atlanta for the National Academic Quiz tournament, but they need some help.

The team held a Community Bowl fundraiser to help raise money for their upcoming trip to Georgia.

Members of the community and local businesses teamed up in groups of four to see who had the most academic knowledge.

Although the academic team at GJHS is very competitive, their coach says it’s about much more.

“It plugs you into a network of people who are successful, and the kids learn lessons from this team, not just knowledge but beyond, like working together and studying for an objective, and working hard," said GJHS Academic Team Coach, Coady Shawcroft.

The team has a goal of $10,000 to go toward funding for their trip to Atlanta, and they will also be competing in the Matchwits Tournament next Thursday, April 19.
