Local doctors travel to Haiti to help those in need

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- Two doctors from Community Hospital are heading to Haiti to help those in need.

Ear, nose, and throat surgeon’s Dr. Adam Baker and Dr. Katie Mckee-Cole will perform surgeries, free of charge, from cleft lip operations, to ear and nasal reconstructions, to cancer extractions of the throat and mouth.

The program is sponsored and organized through Chance, a nonprofit dedicated to improving lives in third world countries.

"The sense of joy that patients have because they would otherwise would never has these procedures done, there's no one there to do them, and so it's an incredible thing, it really is an honor for us to go,” said Dr. Adam Baker, facial plastic surgeon traveling to Haiti.

The doctors will be working alongside a medical team from Thomas Jefferson University in Pennsylvania.

They hope to help at least 25 people in a week.
