Sizzling sidewalks hazardous for pups' paws

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- The Roice Hurst Humane Society says the best time to walk your pets is in in the morning or evening, and give them plenty of water and shade.

"He doesn't like to walk on it at all, not even concrete, it's too hot, we don't let him walk on the pavement after about ten o'clock in the morning,” said Jim Lower, dog owner.

Roice Hurst says if you have a lighter-colored dog, apply sunscreen to their nose and paws as they can easily sunburn. You can also use a t-shirt.

"You can't put them in the back of a pick up because that metal is hotter than Dickens,” said Gene Peschong, dog owner.

Most of all, never, never leave your dogs in a hot car or in direct sunlight.
