Former Sunset Mesa Funeral Home owner accepts guilty plea in unrelated case

MONTROSE, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- The former owner of Sunset Mesa Funeral Homes in Montrose appeared in County Court Tuesday, but she was there for charges unrelated to the FBI investigations into her business.

Megan Hess was charged with reckless driving and reckless endangerment after chasing two customers off her funeral home property a few months ago.

Police say Hess chased them through traffic, cornered them and bumped one of them with her car. She pleaded guilty and her charges were lowered to one count Improper Backing.

It's just a class A traffic infraction that will give her two points on her license and a $30 fine.

As the FBI Investigation continues, Hess will be back in court for something else.

One of her customers is suing her and the Funeral Foundation for fraud and outrageous conduct. It's the first family to sue her since the funeral home allegations. They allege their loved one's body organs were donated without being told and they got concrete mix instead of ashes.

That court case is set for spring of next year.
