MONTROSE, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- Residents in a Montrose neighborhood say their drinking water is discolored, smells and tastes weird.
The drinking water in the Riverwood Subdivision has become so questionable that residents are using bottled water to drink and cook with.
This 35 home subdivision is located just off Marine road, just outside Montrose City limits.
A joint effort is underway to figure out how to help residents. Whether that be extending the city’s water lines into the subdivision or having the owner be accountable to the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, who could force the owner to bring it to compliance.
"The water system itself is registered with the state but has been out of compliance for years, this water source that they are using is owned by a third party that does not live in Montrose, so they pay for this water service each month even though they are not able to use it,” said William Woody, Communications Manager, City of Montrose.
The City of Montrose says the water hasn't been tested, and there's no timeline for when the problem will be resolved.
