VA offering free flu shots to vets

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- Are you ready for flu season? Now’s your chance to get vaccinated without leaving the comfort of your own car.

The Veterans Health Care System is offering free flu shots to all vets with an official ID card.

They have a walk-in clinic starting Thursday through November 21 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. then 1 p.m. until 3 p.m., Monday through Friday.

They will have a drive-through clinic this Saturday, November 3 starting from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. They say it’s best to wear short sleeves.

"It's not just to protect yourself but to protect others around you. Especially our elderly population, and our kids, if we aren't vaccinated sometimes it’s easy to carry those germs around, it’s something that we can prevent and this is how we do it, it's a smart thing to do,” said Shawn Montgomery, Public Affairs Director with the VA Western Colorado Health Care System.

Since mid-September, they have already handed out more than 4,000 flu vaccines.
