Downtown parking meter money will be donated during the holidays

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- If you're parking downtown this holiday season, be prepared to still pay the meters, but know it’s going to a good cause.

Half of all holiday parking meter money will be donated to United Way Mesa County.

It'll start Thanksgiving day and running till the end of the year.

You'll remember, in previous years, parking was free downtown during the holidays. Last year, this change was made, and equaled a donation of $14,000 to United Way.

"This is an incredible boost. The check last year was a delightful surprise and to hear that it's going to happen again this year is huge. It's really amazing,” said Julie Hinkson, Executive Director of United Way of Mesa County.

Parking rates will remain the same. You can call United Way at (970) 243-5364 for more info on how to help.
