MONTROSE, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- A family from Olathe is trying to rebuild their lives after their home burned down last week, taking almost everything inside with it.
David Allen and Brittany Purtteman were asleep at 3 a.m. on November 27, when David said he felt unusually warm in the middle of the night.
When he woke up he saw flames all around his bedroom, and within seconds gathered up his wife and kids, and got out of his burning home.
By the time fire crews got to the scene, the home had already been totally destroyed.
Clothes, shoes, dishes, everything inside was consumed.
David was the only one injured in the blaze with burns on his hand, but he's glad his family is alive.
"My family being here and safe, and not hurt, It's greater than anything that I lost. I don't care about all my material possessions as long as my family is okay. Because we can rebuild, but we can't rebuild without each other," Allen said.
The family is currently living at a motel in Montrose until they can find more permanent housing. The Montrose County Sheriff's Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
