GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- Now that November is over, it was time for GJPD to shave off the beards.
The Grand Junction Police Department managed to raise more than $2,200 for No Shave November.
It was a first for the department, and they allowed both men and women to participate. Men grew out their bushy beards and women were allowed to add a touch of color to their hair.
All the proceeds went to Grand Valley Oncology on Patterson Road.
"It’s one other chance that we can not only interact with our community but make a small step in doing something positive that can potentially affect people's lives in a positive way, you know like I said, we have a lot of fantastic employees that care about our community and this is one way that we were really able to do some outreach in a sort of nontraditional manner,” said Doug Shoemaker, Chief of Grand Junction Police.
More than a third of the staff, that's roughly 70 people, participated. Police Chief Doug Shoemaker says they plan on making this an annual tradition.
