GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- Thursday 12 lucky students got to go on a shopping spree at the annual shop with a cop event.
The Grand Junction Police Department, Mesa County Sheriff's Office and Colorado State Patrol teamed up to help kids pick out the perfect gifts for their families.
"I'm super excited and because I get to go shopping for my family and my friends,” said Cassandra Herrera, 5th grader at Dual Immersion Academy.
In the morning, kiddos were picked up from school, taken for breakfast at McDonald's and then headed over to the Mesa Mall.
"Seeing the excitement of the kids and the fact that they are so selfless, they really, really want to make a difference for their family and just bless their families,” said Lorie Sanchez, Police Service Technician, GJPD.
The program started 26 years ago. Each year, one 5th grader from each D51 school is chosen to participate. The kids are picked based on need.
