Colorado snowpack below average

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- Despite recent snowfall, Colorado's snowpack is below average.

We're currently at 94 percent of normal. This means across the state, snowpack totals are still lower than they typically would be. The good news is, it's still 172 percent more than last year.

Snowpack totals become more concerning as you head towards the Four Corners.

"The Durango area, they're just at almost 70 percent. So, it's kind of unfortunate that the same area that was hit hardest by the drought last year is also the farthest behind on snowpack this year," said Hannah Holm, Coordinator Hutchins Water Center at Colorado Mesa University.

The state needs to still see quite a bit more winter weather in order to make up for last year's deficiency and the current drought conditions.
