Kennel Cough is circulating around the Grand Valley

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- Just like humans, dogs and cats get sick this time of year too.

Amigo Animal Clinic on 25 Road says they've been very busy this winter with dog flu and Kennel Cough. Cats tend to have more upper respiratory diseases.

Those cause sneezing, coughing, runny eyes and nose.

Vets say your pets can pick up these illnesses at the dog park, pet stores, boarding kennels, and just about anywhere other dogs go. If your dog is sick don’t let them share toys, food and water bowls with other dogs.

Luckily, humans cannot contract these dog or cat illnesses.

"We've been very, very busy with kennel cough cases. So, kind of a tough thing about it is the dogs are often contagious before they show signs, so it can spread kind of quickly through a group of dogs,” said Lindsay Foster, Veterinarian, Amigo Animal Clinic.

If your pet shows symptoms, take them to the vet immediately. You can vaccinate your pets against these illnesses.

You can contact Amigo at (970) 245-0210.
