FRUITA, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- According to a new report, Fruita just barely breaks the top ten safest cities in Colorado.
According to alarms.org, Fruita is the ninth safest city in Colorado. The report draws numbers from the FBI Uniform Crime Report statistics. It shows Fruita had 172 property crimes and 25 violent crimes in 2017.
"Usually, the top two complaints for the citizens of Fruita are speeding through my neighborhood and dogs at large. That kind of tells you a little bit about what’s going on,” said Sgt. John Coughran, of the Fruita Police Department.
In 2018, however, Fruita saw a few notable crimes—from the police use of force case, where an officer was seen allegedly punching a suspect in the stomach, to the Nazi flag flying over a home in Fruita and the Fruita Monument High School lockdown that involved agencies from around Mesa County.
Grand Junction was 34th on the list.
