GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- February 4th is World Cancer Day.
It's a day to raise awareness about the disease and its impacts. Many people are spreading the word and sharing their stories online with the hashtags "World Cancer Day" and "I am and I will".
Community Hospital says back in 2017, there were 25,000 cancer cases across the state of Colorado. In Mesa County, there are two new cancer cases diagnosed each day. The most commonly diagnosed in Mesa County are breast and gastrointestinal cancers.
"Cancer, unfortunately, is still very prevalent. The good news is that with early detection and treatment cancer survivors are living longer than ever before," said Karen Martsolf, Community Hospital.
Cancer is the second-leading cause of death worldwide.
