GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- The first ever Explore the Outdoors Expo showcased different businesses that take advantage of our beautiful state--and it's just what Grand Junction is hoping to bring here.
It was the first ever Explore the Outdoors Expo at Two Rivers Convention Center.
The goal was for different recreational businesses to show off some of their new outdoor products, and give seminars on things like camping, fishing, and surviving in the great outdoors.
But some of the businesses say the outdoor industry has room to grow here in Mesa County, and it could strengthen our local economy.
One business owner said he started on the Front Range, but noticed Grand Junction was a way to stay competitive.
"I bring clients out from Denver, and they make a weekend out of it. So, they'll come into town, they'll stay in a hotel locally, enjoy the local restaurants, and then we'll spend a full day or two days fishing. So, it's a great getaway for somebody coming from the Front Range," said owner of Fish On Colorado, Jeff Powles.
Powles says he expects his fly fishing business will do well here because he doesn't think there is a lot of competition.
