GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- People living in the Driftwood Apartments were recently told to leave their homes because of asbestos.
Several tenants say they weren't given very much notice, and some even had to sleep in their cars because they had nowhere else to go.
The manager of the property tells us tenants have been refunded their full rent for this month, as well as their security deposit, but did not want to be interviewed.
"They just gave my grandma a call and said, get here as soon as possible, and get here and get your stuff. They gave us like, five or ten minutes to grab just a few things. I grabbed my clothes, and they didn't let my grandma grab what she needed," said resident Jordan Long.
The residents in the complex have not been let back in, and it's unclear how long it will be until the asbestos cleanup is done.
