Colorado Trail Explorer app helps Coloradans navigate trails

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- The Colorado Trail Explorer app is making it easy to navigate the nearly 40,000 miles of trails in Colorado.

The new app, known as "COTREX", is a free phone application that serves as a map of all the trails within the state. You can also find information on directions, where to park, landmarks and trail conditions.

"We work with all the various land managers, in Colorado, to give everyone the most comprehensive information about the trails. Whether they are hikers, bikers, equestrians, any kind of way you would want to enjoy the trail, this is the place to get that information to do that," said Mike Porras, Colorado Parks and Wildlife.

Colorado is the first state to have an extensive trail app. It was created as part of former Governor Hickenlooper's "Colorado the Beautiful" initiative.
