GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT) Mesa County Commissioners have given some serious cash to the Palisade Plunge trail project.
The county has given more than $678,000 to Singletrack Trails, the company that will now construct the lower half of the trail. Commissioners say most of that money came from a $527,000 dollar grant from Colorado Parks and Wildlife.
The 30 mile trail will start at the top of the Grand Mesa, and wind down toward North River Road and the Colorado River in Palisade.
"Governor Hickenlooper a couple years back had a list of trails that he wanted constructed around the state, and the Palisade Plunge was one of those trails. It will help Powderhorn, and help their business, not just in winter time but summer as well,” said Mesa County Commissioner, Rose Pugliese.
The county hasn't set a start date yet, but says it could be sometime this summer.
