GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- Starting Monday, there will be a few construction projects that may delay your trips along Interstate 70.
A busy section of I-70 near Glenwood Springs will be seeing some major updates to help improve safety. The project's goal is to install a new vertical lift and fire doors in the I-70 Hanging Lake tunnel garage complex from mile marker 125 to 126.
The $2.08 million project will also include replacing two large doors in both traveling directions on I-70. Crews will start on the garage doors located on the westbound lanes of the tunnels, which will impact a single lane of westbound traffic.
The new garage doors are designed to provide improved functionality and fire protection for CDOT crews and they are expected to last at least 30 years.
Work on eastbound lanes is set to start in early September. The entire Hanging Lake project is set to wrap up by December. Normal working hours will be 5 a.m. To 7 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and Fridays from 5 a.m. Until 12 p.m.
There will also be road closures out in Delta starting Monday, July 8th. CDOT will be working on eastbound lanes of Highway 50.
Traffic will be using the westbound side and access will be completely closed at G-50 road. The Delta road work is expected to last five weeks.
