GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- Aug. 17 is National "Clear the Shelter" day and one local shelter is making sure they find homes for their pets.

Roice Hurst Humane Society had cats, kittens and dogs for a ten dollar adoption fee. Every animal was given to their new owner spayed neutered, and fully vaccinated.

There were around 40 animals available for adoption and everyone was welcome to come out.

"And we're just really looking forward to having this opportunity, to get people in the shelter. To see what it's like to be a shelter pet here, it's not a terrible place to be but obviously a home is always a better place,” says Roice Hurst Humane Society Anna Stout.

Officials at the shelter say this event is important because when one pet is adopted, another pet is able to come into their shelter.
