Park preps ahead of freezing temperatures

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO)-- Ahead of Wednesday night's cold front, crews at Canyon View Park are prepping their pipes.

The approaching cold front is expected to drop temperatures to near, or below freezing, in the Grand Valley for a few nights. The freezing temperatures could cause damage to above-ground pipes so crews have been busy working at Canyon View Park to get those pipes winter ready. They're draining pipes in the restroom areas, swamp coolers and drinking fountains.

"With these temperatures, dropping into the lower 20s for a couple of days, we're definitely concerned about these pipes. So anything above ground, anything small diameter, with pipes, with water, we're definitely draining down," said Marc Mancuso, Park Supervisor for Sports Facilities.

Right now, sprinklers aren't a concern since the irrigation is underground and not expected to freeze.
