GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO)-- C-P-W is warning parents as they start to get ready for outdoor fall activities, remember to go over safety with your kids.
Hunting season is here and more families are spending time outdoors.
Officials say that around the Fall they see more kids going into hospitals because of incidents that happen while camping or hiking, and things of that nature.
C-P-W wants parents to make sure that they always have food and water handy and to dress for the occasion. More importantly, if a child gets lost they should stay put until help comes.
“Right now we’re starting to get into our main Rifle season, our hunting season, there’s a lot of people out in the backcountry. And almost every year we hear a story of somebody who went out to go hunting, and wasn’t quite prepared,” Colorado Parks and Wildlife Mike Porras.
Officials say accidents from things like riding on ATV's and hiking steep mountains are the most common during the fall.
