GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO)-- Nisley Elementary had a ribbon cutting Oct. 17 for the opening of their brand new playground.
Officials say the original playground didn’t work for students with disabilities.
The school was awarded a GOCO grant to partially fund the more than $150,000 dollar project. Local businesses chipped in to fund the rest.
"You know that we're an inclusive school and we have programs here with disabilities and we were finding that recess wasn't really a fun time for them. And so by having this now they can join in and play with their friends, and it's going to build friendships and encourage everyone to play with each other, so it's very exciting,” says Nisley Principal Dorothy Wolf.
The playground has been in the works for about a year.
