GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO)-- Delta County Health Department is warning people with private wells to test their drinking water, after they found contaminated water in the area.
The Center for Disease Control gave the health department a grant four years ago, which allows them to test the quality of water nearby. They tested over 800 wells and found an area southwest of montrose with high levels of arsenic. It can cause things like kidney damage if consumed over a period of time.
“They wouldn’t know that they had arsenic in their water without testing. So, we encourage people with private drinking water wells and drinking water sources to test their wells on a periodic basis,” says Delta County Health Department Ken Nordstrom.
Things like uranium and high levels of iron were also found.
