GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO)-- A recent four person arrest in connection to several car thefts from grand junction to the front range was made possible with the help of a local K-9. The K-9 helped nab two of the suspects.
Handlers with the Grand Junction Police Department give commands to the dogs in a language that no one else understands. And, this is only a small portion of their training.
They are also trained to smell things like meth and cocaine...and trained to be able to track or apprehend a suspect.
We were unable to locate him, so Merlin was brought in to track him down, and he just that, track him and find them and complete an arrest without any incident,” says GJPD Officer and K9 Handler Joey Gonzalez.
The dogs are only trained to listen to their handlers.
