Lunch Lizard expands locations to serve students for Friday's school closures

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO)-- Despite the closures, there are still plenty of kids, sick or not, who rely on free or reduced lunches over these next few days.

That's where the Lunch Lizard is stepping in to help.

The school closures just two days before Thanksgiving break is stressing out some parents, causing them to take unexpected time off, and for some, wonder how to feed their children.

Over 50% of kids in D51 are on the free or reduced lunch program, so when there's no school, it often means no food for some students.

The D51 Lunch Lizard was out Thursday in select location bringing free meals to students in need.

They will be hitting the following locations on Friday.

Monument Ridge Townhomes: 11:15-11:45 a.m.
Mesa Avenue Park: 11:15-11:45 a.m.
Eagle Rim Park: 12:00-12:30 p.m.
Kimwood Park: 12:00-12:30 p.m.
Candlewood Park: 12:40-1:00 p.m.

Schools will reopen the week after Thanksgiving.
