GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- Local high school students are back at school after officials shut down all schools in District 51 because of a gastro intestinal virus.
Mesa County Public Health says they got less calls into their public hotline over the weekend, but it will be another day or two before they know if the illness is on its way out for good.
There was never any official confirmation that norovirus was the illness, but officials say they might have a lead.
"We did have a case that got tested in a local physicians office this weekend, AND right now, we are trying to see…it tested positive. So we are trying to see if there is an association. It was an infant," said Executive Director of Mesa County Public Health, Jeff Kurh.
Mesa County Public Health estimates the illness impacted around 5,000 to 6,000 people.
