Man arrested on I-70 had over 60 pounds of drugs in car including meth and fentanyl.

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO)-- A California man who was driving along I-70 is in custody after a Mesa County Sheriff Deputy found over 60 pounds of drugs in his car.

It happened during a traffic stop.

42-year-old Donald Martinez-Guevara was driving a car that had several plastic wrapped packages with meth and Fentanyl inside.

He was pulled over near the Mack exit when he didn't signal while changing lanes. That’s when the deputy noticed something unusual about the cars fuel tank and got permission to search it--and that's where the drugs were found.

"This amount of narcotics was intended for distribution. They were going to our community or either another community further east. And, we're happy that we were able to take them off the street and remove the possibility that these drugs could have harmed somebody,” says MCSO Megan Terlecky.

Officials say this is one of the largest amounts of drugs taken off the highways in "a very long time."
