National Human Trafficking Awareness Month

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO)-- A local group hopes to bring awareness to the warning signs of human trafficking in the community.

January is Human Trafficking Awareness Month.

A group called Western Slope Against Trafficking will be hosting a training on Jan. 11 at the Center for Independence.

“Once we become educated about something it changes our culture, it changes the way we do business, it changes the way we operate. And that is what interrupts the long term and reduces. That's where we see things like domestic violence, or sexual abuse or human trafficking. We see them reduce because people become aware,” says Human Trafficking Educator and Consultant Angela Clark.

The training will educate people about common trafficking situations and how to respond. There will also be a Q & A session where folks can talk to experts and survivors about their experiences.
